Beethoven Many people, including me, think Beethoven is one of the greatest composers in the world. Ludwig van Beethoven was born December 1770 in Bonn, Germany. At age eight, he gave his first public concert, but that was just the beginning.
Beethoven wrote nine symphonies. His sixth symphony is my favorite. It is called "Pastorale", or Shepard's Song. He also wrote a very famous song called "The Moonlight Sonata". His fifth symphony is recognized by millions.
Ludwig had bad hearing at an early age. It got worse until at age twenty-nine he became incurably deaf. It got so bad he thought about killing himself. He became hard to work with and he lost his temper easily. He had difficult relationships with women. Though he was deaf he continued writing music.
While Beethoven was on his deathbed, he tried to write a tenth symphony. He didn't finish. He died March 1827 at age fifty-six. Twenty thousand people attended their dear Beethoven's funeral.
