The corps' motto is Semper Fidelis which means always faithful. Francis (Swamp Fox) Marion was an U.S. general whose raids gave him the nickname Swamp Fox. Once he and his men darted out of the swamps and started shooting British Generals and Lieutenants, then hid before the British knew what happened. This event killed 90 British and zero colonists. The Swamp Fox was born in South Carolina.

The marines even have their own hymn and it goes like this :

" From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, we fight our country's battles in the air, land, and sea, first to fight for rights and to keep our honer clean,we are proud to bear the title of united states marine. "

Snipers are good at camouflage. They hide and shoot Generals and Lieutenants that are important to the enemy. Did you know that marines work on carriers and fighter ships? They even worked on submarines!

The Medal of Honor is very special to a Marine. One out of 1,000 Marines get the Medal of Honor. Here are a few, Ralph Talbot, Henry L. Hulbert, Harry Lewis, Earnest Janson, and Clyde Thomason. In Iraq the Cherytac M200 Sniper Rifle was popular. It could fire at 2,500 ft. and kill the enemy.

The Marines faced the Barbary Pirates in 1801 to 1815 because the pirates wanted $2,250,000 for the American prisoners at Tripoli. The Marines refused and sailed to Tripoli and bombarded it until nothing but ruins remained, and they took the captives back.
